My spice weapon of choice is a ground fruit from the subtropical regions of this planet, and largely comes from the good ole’ U.S. of A.
Many Italian tables have sumac in place of salt, but to me it tastes more like black pepper. Lemon pepper to be exact. Its sweet undertones and peppery kick give it a ton of flavor, making it an ideal partner for salt. In fact, in our kitchen, salt dumped pepper a long time ago for sumac, and we have used both ever since as the foundation for our recipes.
