Crispy Airline Chicken

Crispy Airline Chicken

Crispy Airline Chicken | If you’re a reader of this blog, you know I tend to reminisce about my glory days as a member of the Sharks growing up in the mean streets of Boston. Ok that’s a joke, I never joined a gang and I grew up in the suburbs, but we did get into the city to see the sights once in a while. And one of those sites stands proud at Park Plaza, the old Hotel Statler. And you know what this place was famous for? Its fancy “Statler Chicken,” which was a chicken breast with the first wing joint attached (aka the drumette). Soon it became a hit, and the airlines started serving them up in the 60’s when people thought it was ingenious to smoke on planes, and that’s how they adopted their better known name today, the “Airline Chicken.”

Khaleesi's Hollandaise

Khaleesi’s Hollandaise

Khaleesi’s Hollandaise | It’s about 3,000 degrees in Austin right now and I can hear my AC wheezing in pain. I feel bad for it. You’d think nothing could possibly grow in this ground-splitting heat, but believe it or not, if you go into my garden and push aside the scorched herb skeletons of parsley, chives and thyme, you’ll see that life still miraculously exists! What could it possibly be? Only a dragon could survive these conditions. A dragon cayenne pepper that is…

Fennel Grape Shred Salad

Fennel Grape Shred Salad

Fennel Grape Shred Salad | It’s the summer of salads and they’ve been rolling out of our kitchen! For this one, we took on an old nemesis of ours, fennel, and used it as the foundation for this fruity, cheesy, minty garden of awesomeness. That’s right. We toss shredded fennel with cucumber threads, grapes, oranges,…

Happy Hour Chicken Nuggets

Happy Hour Chicken Nuggets

Happy Hour Chicken Nuggets | When I was kid in North Andover, Massachusetts, I used to eat chicken nuggets everyday for breakfast. And I mean everyday. It was the true breakfast of champions. Or it was just plain weird and I have no idea why my parents let me do it. I used to go through one of those giant frozen bags and a bottle of BBQ sauce by sunset, only to rise again the next day to depopulate the chicken world. I’ve since changed my breakfast menu (in case you were wondering), but that doesn’t mean I still don’t get nostalgic about my nuggets. And when I do, we go all out in my kitchen.
